EPC D → C upgrade for 1930s semi (interwar)

The most common UK post-war archetype. Unfilled cavity walls, a part-insulated loft and pre-2002 double glazing are the usual starting point — and the quickest EPC D → C path in the country.

What's specific about this archetype

1930s semis are the sweet spot for UK retrofit economics. Cavity wall insulation (where the cavity is workable) is the single biggest wins-per-£, and the loft top-up is genuinely the cheapest SAP point on the market. Most 1930s semis can hit EPC C for under £2,500 before grants — the best risk-adjusted return of any archetype in the country.

Model your exact property

The figures above use a reference archetype. Your real floor area, mortgage balance, current energy bill and exact current band will shift the numbers. Use the full EPC upgrade calculator for a customised version, the insulation savings calculator to choose between competing fabric measures, and BUS grant eligibility if a heat pump is on the shortlist.
